Welcome to HarmoniumLessons.com!
The harmonium is a fun and easy to learn instrument, used in kirtan and many other forms of music. It was invented in Paris in the 19th century, and quickly became popular as a portable organ. Not long after its invention, missionaries brought harmoniums to India to accompany church services. It spread like wildfire, Indian companies began making their own versions, and today it is thought of as an Indian instrument. It is especially beloved by devotional singers of Bhajan, Kirtan and Qawwali. As these ecstatic and prayerful musics have reached American shores, the harmonium is making a come-back! Most kirtan leaders here use them, including Krishna Das, Snatam Kaur, Jai Uttal and Sean Johnson, and many rock bands have used them to spice up their sound, including The Beatles, Queen, Tori Amos, and Jeff Buckley.
Whether you want to learn harmonium for singing kirtan at home, leading an opening invocation for a yoga class, or adding a new sound to your original songs, music teacher Daniel Tucker will help you become friends with the harmonium.
“Daniel Tucker's knowledge and easy going manner makes him an ideal choice for those who wish to expand their musical abilities. I highly recommend him as a guide to the land of harmonium playing!”
